Abstract

1281412 Nozzles KERNFORSCHUNGSANLAGE JULICH Gmbh 5 Nov 1969 [13 Nov 1968 54279/69 Heading B2F A nozzle, particularly for supplying gases to coat particles of nuclear fuel or fertile material in a fluidized bed, comprises two co-axial graphite tubes. As shown in Fig. 2, the nozzle is connected to the conical portion I of a fluidizing tube and includes outer tube 5a and inner tube 2, gases being supplied through annular gap 8 and through the bore of tube 2. Supply through gap 8 is adjusted by longitudinal displacement of tube 2 which varies the size of clearance 3a. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 (not shown), the tubes are threadably connected. The useful life of the graphite may be lengthened by coating it with pyrolitic carbon and/or with one or more of silicon carbide, zirconium carbide, niobium carbide or boron carbide.
