Abstract
1280956 Storage stranding machines; S-Z twisting KABEL-UND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG 6 May 1970 [12 May 1969] 21849/70 Heading D1T A storage stranding machine for producing cable having sections with reversing twist comprises a perforated disc 8 and a stranding nipple 9 mounted on a carriage movable towards and away from a rotatable storage device comprising rollers 7 and pulleys 1, 2. In operation, during normal travel of the strand through the machine, the nipple 9 is moved slowly away from the store from position B to position C. When direction reversal is required, the nipple is moved towards the store at the same speed as the cable, commencing movement as the store decelerates, reaching point A as the store ceases to rotate, and point B as full speed is attained in the reverse direction. The nipple is then slowly moved once more to point C. Guides 11, which are separable and movable away from the cable to permit passage of the nipple, may be provided to support the cable whilst the nipple is remote from the store. The arrangement is stated to prevent untwisting at the reversal points.
