1280511 Centrifugal hydro-extractors G A BRAUN Inc 8 Sept 1969 [7 Oct 1968] 44251/69 Heading F4G [Also in Division D1] A laundry machine with a rotatably mounted cylindrical drum 14 has means for supplying compressed air through apertures 83 in the cylindrical wall 16 of the drum and means 50 for directing a stream of compressed air radially on to the periphery of the cylindrical wall to promote release of a compacted mass of laundry on the interior of the drum wall. The machine may be a hydro-extractor or, as shown, a washing-extracting machine the drum 14 of which is selectively driven for washing and spin drying by two electric motors. The drum may be divided into three sections by partitions 21 and be loaded through an end opening 20 in a fixed casing 11 which is tiltable forwardly or rearwardly to facilitate unloading and loading. Alternatively, as shown on the right hand of Fig. 2 the drum may be undivided and loaded through corresponding openings 41 and 39 in the drum and fixed casing 38. Compressed air is supplied to a reservoir 59 and thence as a stream or a series of blasts through values 67, 68, which are opened electrically in response to an electric timer mechanism while braking the drum at the end of a spin drying cycle, to pass through a flexible conduit 72 or rigid conduit 77 to a nozzle 50 including a parallel section followed by a flared section. A plurality of nozzles 50 may be provided and they may be disposed spirally, longitudinally or circumferentially of the wall 16 or the nozzle may be in the form of a manifold extending parallel to the drum axis.
