Abstract

1422395 Washing machines SEBRAN 11 Jan 1973 [13 Jan 1972] 1543/73 Heading D1A [Also in Division F4] A front loading washing and spin drying machine drum 2 is located radially by rollers 10, 11, one at least of which is driven, mounted on at least three parallel shafts A to E distributed around at least 180‹ of the axis of the drum 2 and axially by rollers 12, 13 engaging radial flanges 4, 5 of the drum. As shown the drum 2 comprises a laundry chamber 6 with a polyhedral wall 25 within the cylindrical drum 3 separated by a partition 9 from a fluid supply and discharge chamber 8, has a loading aperture 7 closable by a bottom-hinged door 33 with a window 37 and an inflatable sealing ring 40 and is driven by a motor 19 mounted on a lever 17 which is pivotable by a ram 22 to engage a single friction roller 24 on the shaft of the motor 19 with a roller 10. The drum 2 is mounted in a housing with a window 43 in a door 42. The drum may be tiltable for unloading. In use wash liquid and detergent supplied through openings k to a chamber 45 pass through a conduit 46 to the chamber 8 and through apertures 31, 32 in the partition 9 to the chamber 6. Steam may be passed through a conduit 48 and its end 49 through the apertures 31 into the chamber 6 to heat it. Liquid is discharged from the chamber 6 into the chamber 8 through the apertures 31 or through apertures 29 into peripheral chamber 27 of the drum and thence through the apertures 32 and on rotation of the drum is picked up by mouth 51 of stationary tube 50 which can act as a siphon when once filled.
