Abstract
1280019 Cuprous cyanide E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 10 Oct 1969 [10 Oct 1968 7 July 1969] 49984/69 Heading C1A Cuprous cyanide is produced by dissolving copper in hydrochloric acid and cupric chloride, then reacting the cuprous chloride solution produced with liquid hydrogen cyanide to give cuprous cyanide which is separated off. Part of the cuprous chloride may be oxidized to cupric chloride, and recycled to the first step. Hydrochloric acid produced in the reaction between cuprous chloride and hydrogen cyanide may also be recycled. The hydrochloric acid used may contain an alkali metal chloride or an alkaline earth metal chloride, to increase the solubility of cuprous chloride.
