1279009 Dry shavers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 July 1969 [19 July 1968] 35862/69 Heading B4B A shaving-head for a dry shaver comprises a stationary shear-plate 1 force-operation with a movable blade 5 slidable in an aperture 9 in a holder 8. During cutting of a hair 2, Fig. 1, an upward component force K is set up which tends to move the blade 5 away from the surface of the shear plate 1. In order to avoid the use of an excessive pre-loading, e.g. by a spring (11), Fig. 3 (not shown), in order to maintain the blade in contact with the shear plate, a shank portion 10, Fig. 2, of the blade is allowed to deflect under the action of the cutting force 5 thereby causing friction to be developed at points 12, 13, Fig. 2, such frictional forces being sufficient to balance the force K.
