Abstract
1278282 Wire strippers IDEAL INDUSTRIES Inc 28 July 1969 37873/69 Heading B4W [Also in Division H2] The operation of a pair of handles 18, 20 of a wire stripper causes gripping and cutting blades 62, 78 respectively to slide towards fixed blades 58, 76, and also the opening and closing of a pair of pivoted levers 12, 14. The handles have arcuate slots 86, 88 enabling them to move about rollers 90, 92 fitted on pins 94, 96 extending into the levers and hence cause projections 102 which engage slots (106, 108) in the blades to slide the blades. When the rollers are at the limit of the slot travel, further compression of the handles causes the levers to open against the spring 110 and move the blades away from each other axially of the wire. The spring is wound about the lever pivot pin 36 with ends 114, 116 free to move within the handles. Thus the gripping and cutting of the insulation is followed by a lateral motion, separating the insulation from the wire. The movable blades have slots 74 enabling them to slide about fixing bolts 56 and spacers 70 of the respective levers. The cutting blade is formed with several openings of different diameters and to ensure the centralization of the wire within the blades, the gripping blades have a lateral divergence in the direction of the largest opening.
