Abstract
1278249 Vibration detectors MARCONI CO Ltd 5 Sept 1969 [10 Dec 1968] 58637/68 Headings H4J J7BY J7L and J6A Apparatus for detecting vibrations in roads, railway lines or prison walls, comprises at least two elongate metal conductors, e.g tubes 1 and 3, Fig. 1; strips 5 and 6, Fig. 3; strips 11, Fig. 5, of sufficient hardness and rigidity to be capable of resonant vibration even in the absence of a tensile force and an elongate insulator, e.g. tube 2, Fig. 1; coating 7, Fig. 3; member 12, Fig. 5, arranged to permit free, if limited, movement of the conductors with respect to one another so that when the conductors are set in vibration a voltage is generated between the conductors due to the tribo-electric effect and/or capacitance changes between the conductors. The conductors may be of aluminium alloy or brass and the insulators may be of P.T.F.E. or P.V.C. The Fig. 1 arrangement may be modified by replacing the insulating tube 2 by a coating (21), Fig. 2 (not shown) on the inner tube 3. The Fig. 3 arrangement may be modified by having coatings (9) Fig. 4 (not shown) on the two outer conductive strips (8), three metal strips (10) being provided between the coated strips.
