Abstract

1278246 Welding by pressure; making dynamo-electric machines JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 5 Nov 1969 [13 Nov 1968] 53837/68 Headings B3A and B3R [Also in Division H2] In a method of interconnecting the conductors 18, 17 of the rotor windings of a dynamoelectric machine to the respective segments 16 of the commutator 11 of the machine, a first conductor 17 is engaged with a segment at least up to a shoulder defining a first portion 16a at one end of the segment, similarly a second conductor 18 is engaged with the conductor 17 so that the first is sandwiched and a welding electrode is engaged with the second conductor 18 to pass a current to the segment to weld the first and second conductors together and to the first portion of the segment 16a. The tip of the conductor 17 is coated with tin or a tin-lead alloy prior to welding. The conductors are oval in section. In a modification the first portion 16a is formed with an axially extending rib with which the conductor 17 is engaged and in another modification the rib is omitted.
