Abstract

1277766 Degumming and dyeing silk R MACHON J FLECHET and E HUGO 30 Oct 1969 [11 June 1969] 53313/69 Heading D1B Natural silk is degummed and dyed in a single operation in a single bath by treating the silk in an alkaline bath containing a non- oxidising scouring agent and during this process adding to the bath a dye for the silk and subsequently effecting a sudden reduction of pH to a value in the range 6.0-7.5, the scouring agent is preferably an ammonium salt e.g. a tertiary or quaternary ammonium salt, or may be a soap containing no tannin. The silk may be pretreated with a wetting agent before the scouring agent, acid is used to reduce the pH of the dyebath after which further dye may be added. Agitation of the liquors is advantageous.
