Abstract
1277145 Electroless plated polypropylene plastics GULF & WESTERN INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS CO 27 July 1970 36189/70 Heading C7F Polypropylene surfaces are rendered electroconductive by etching, activating by exposure to a chloride ion-free solution of palladium nitrate, treating with an aqueous solution containing halide ions, reducing the surface, and electroless plating. The etchant may be chromic acid/sulphuric acid, the halide-ion solution aqueous HCl, the reducing agent NaH 2 PO 2 and Cu or Ni the electroless metal plating. The process is applicable to plating using a plastisol-coated metal workpiece - rack wherein the halide ion treatment deactivates the rack but not the workpieces, so that no re-rack is necessary. In a re-rack process the halide-ion treatment is omitted.
