Abstract

1276449 Electric couplings SIEMENS AG 20 Aug 1970 [21 Aug 1969 18 Feb 1970 24 April 1970] 40044/70 Heading H2E A member for electrically connecting insulated conductors comprises metal strip 69 with cut-away portion 70 to provide outer tongues 78, 79 and metal strip 68 spot welded to strip 69 and providing centre tongue 80, the tongues forming slots 76, 77 for clamping the conductors and penetrating the insulation. The centre tongue may alternatively be a third piece of metal welded to the second piece so that it lies in the plane of the outer tongues (Fig. 2, not shown). As shown, tongue 80 is bent into the plane of tongues 76, 77 and spaced therefrom by projections 75, 76. The conductors may be first secured in the wide neck of the slots before being forced into the narrower portions by a slotted sliding bar (Fig. 6, not shown). The strips may be of different metals, one being chosen for its clamping properties, the other for its electrical conductivity, e.g. beryllium bronze and nickel silver respectively. The strip providing the centre tongue may be wider than the other strip and formed with stops to limit spreading of the outer tongues (Figs. 1, 2, 4, 12, not shown). Further shanks on the strip providing the centre tongue may define slots overlapping and wider than the clamping slots to grip the insulation and relieve tension (Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4, not shown). One wall of each tensionrelieving slot may be formed by bending the centre tongue through 180 degrees to contact a wider portion thereof (Fig. 3, not shown). The slots may have a constriction past which the wires must be pushed to prevent their escaping from the mouths of the slots (Fig. 7, not shown). As shown in Fig. 19 strip 111 providing centre tongue 117 also provides a loop with crosspiece 122 into which wires are inserted prior to clamping, and two compartments may be formed by extending the centre tongue to almost reach the crosspiece (Fig. 12, not shown). The crosspiece may be cut away if not required (Fig. 11, not shown). The opposite end of the clamping elements may secure the element to a carrier, or may be a plug or socket, or have a soldered or wire-wrapped connection.
