Abstract

1275845 Air filters DR-ING hcF PORSCHE KG 5 May 1970 [28 May 1969] 21638/70 Heading BIT [Also in Division Fl] An annular filter element 10 in the air intake filter 6 of an I.C. engine 5 contains activated carbon 11 to absorb fuel vapour escaping from the fuel tank 1 and carburettor or manifold injection system 2 when the engine is inoperative. The element 10 may comprise outer and inner meshes 25, 26 with a folded filter paper 24, carbon 11 and a linen cloth 27 therebetween. The intake air flow is in the direction S. F or intake air flow (R), Fig. 4 (not shown), from the inside to the outside of the element 10, the linen cloth 27 covers the interior of the outer mesh 25 and the carbon is located outwardly of the filter paper 24. The carbon 11 may be arranged in a layer, Fig. 2 not shown, between a filter paper 23 and a mesh supported linen cloth 21. An electric motor 15 may drive a blower 14 to draw vapour into the carbon 11 for a period after the engine is switched-off.
