Abstract

1,219,358. Air filter housings. FILTERWERK MANN & HUMMEL, G.m.b.H. 29 May, 1968 [30 May, 1967], No. 25664/68. Heading BIT. A housing for an inward flow filter element 9 comprises a bottom part 2, 3, a cover 4, an axial annular wall 15, and a helical flange 20 forming air inlet passages 24, 25 and terminating in contact with the base 3 and cover 4 at 23, 22 respectively (Fig. 3) on each side of inlet opening 21; hence inlet air flows down each of the passages as shown by the arrows in Fig. 3 and penetrates wall 15 through apertures 27 located only in the second half of each passage. Thus air is distributed uniformly over the surface 12 of filter element 9. As described, element 12 is of the pleated paper type. A bracket 7 welded to a ring 6 serves to support cover 4. Holes 8, 4b enable housing and cover to be bolted to the intake pipe of an I.C. engine. Warm air may be fed in by an inlet 30, 31; and a further clean air outlet (not detailed) may be connected to the engine crankcase.
