Abstract
1275760 Jointing STAUBLI & CO GEB 9 June 1969 [14 June 1968] 29039/69 Heading B3V [Also in Divisions B5 D1 and E1] A metal sheet 1 having a marginal portion 2 with a plurality of projections 3, Fig. 3, directed outwards alternately from one and the other side of the sheet is provided with an edge protector 4, Fig. 1, of U-shaped cross-section with at least one rib 5 formed on the inner surface of each side wall and directed inwardly and towards the bottom of the U-shaped cross-section, the ribs 5 engaging behind the projections of the sheet. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 3, the projections 3 are formed by corrugations produced either directly with the cutting of the sheet by a linear pressing beam or by passage between rollers 6, Fig. 7, having points 7 on their periphery. Preferably, the side 8 of the corrugations remote from the edge of the sheet lies at right angles to the plane of the sheet 1. The protector 4 may be removed either laterally or by forcing open the cross-section lightly. In a modification, Fig. 10, the projections comprise individual tips 13, staggered as shown. If the sheet is deformable, e.g. of metal, the tips 13 can be pressed out of the sheet. With cast metal sheets, the tips 13 may be made during casting. With metal sheets produced by rolling, the tips 13 may be attached subsequently by sticking, welding or soldering. On the side away from the edge of the sheet the tips 13 have recessed surfaces (18), Figs. 8 and 9 (both not shown), to retain the edge protector.
