Abstract

1,202,407. Press knives. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS A.B. 21 Nov., 1967 [25 Nov., 1966], No. 52989/67. Heading B4B. A press knife having a cutting edge only on one edge and having the other edge shaped as a lateral back surface to take up the punching pressure is characterized in that the knife has its thickest portion around the middle portion vertically and in that the section of the knife from the thickest portion gets thinner towards the cutting edge as well as towards the back surface. In one form, the thickest portion 30, Fig. 4, has parallel sides 31, 32 and the length A of the tapering side 39 of the back portion 37 is at least about as long as the length B of the cutting edge portion 33 including bevel surface 36. The portion 33 has cutting edge surfaces 34, 35. The decrease in thickness C of the portion 37 is small e.g. 0À2 mm. to 0À4 mm. The portion 37 may also have a tapering side 40. The width of the back surface 38 is at least 0À75, preferably at least 0À80, and at most 0À95, of the largest thickness of the knife. In another form, the surfaces 36, 39 meet at a point 51, Fig. 5, and a bevel surface 50 is situated between the cutting edge surface 34 and the side surface 31.
