Abstract

1275127 Vehicles propelled by linear induction motors NIPPON KOKUYU TETSUDO and MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 14 Oct 1969 [14 Oct 1968] 50511/69 Heading B7L [Also in Divisions E1-E2 and H2] A railway system comprises a track having disposed therealong a plurality of primary field windings 4 of a ground primary linear induction motor, and a vehicle which travels along the track and is coupled to an elongate secondary condutor 8 co-operable with the primary windings 4 for driving and/or braking the vehicle, the secondary conductor 8 being flexible so as to be able to co-operate with the primary windings 4 round a curve in the track. As shown, the track includes spaced rails 1 for supporting the vehicle body 2 and mid-way between the supporting rails 1 a pair of spaced I-shape guide rails 3 on the respective opposed facing sides of which are mounted the primary windings 4. The secondary conductor 8 has first guide wheels 9 for engaging the respective opposed facing sides of the guide rails 3 above and below the primary windings 4 to maintain the lateral position of the secondary conductor 8 with the primary windings 4 and on the upper edge of the conductor 8 are mounted frames 11 provided with second guide-wheels 10 which run on the respective upper flanges of the guide rails 3. A link rod 12 connects groups of frames 11 to the vehicle body 2 to transmit accelerating and braking forces from the secondary conductor 8 to the vehicle body 2 and the vehicle body 2 has wheels 7 running on the supporting rails 1 the axles of which wheels 7 are supported in axle boxes 6, the vehicle body 2 being connected to the axle boxes 6 by air springs 5. Several vehicles as described above may be joined together to form a train with a common integral secondary conductor 8 and as A.C. is supplied to the primary windings 4 adjacent the secondary conductor 8 to produce a movng magnetic field, the train is moved in the direction of the field; and as A.C. is supplied to produce a magnetic field moving in the opposite direction the train is braked.
