Abstract
1393745 Suspension system for linear-motor driven railway vehicles JAPANESE NATIONAL RAILWAYS 20 June 1972 [30 June 1971] 28902/72 Heading B7L A railway vehicle truck driven by a linear motor comprising vehicle coils 11, 11<SP>1</SP> cooperating with a third rail 8 is supported on two pairs of independent wheels la, 1b, 1c, 1d and guided to prevent hunting by forward and rearward guide means such as pairs of vertically spaced guide wheels 7a, 7a<SP>1</SP>, 7b, 7b<SP>1</SP>, 7c<SP>1</SP>, 7d<SP>1</SP> engaging both faces of the third rail, the inner axle box of each independent wheel being coupled to the axle of the adjacent pair of guide wheels by a guide arm 12a, 12b, 13a,13b. The wheels la to 1d are mounted on the truck frame 9 through springs 13, 14, 15, 16 affording vertical resilience and leaf springs 21a to 22d giving horizontal rigidity and the frame 9 supports through parallel links L 1 , L 1 <SP>1</SP>, L 2 , L 2 <SP>1</SP> a mounting frame 71 on which the guide wheels are resiliently mounted and which carries the coils 11, 11<SP>1</SP>. The guide arms 12a, 12b, 13a, 13b are selectively made rigid or non-rigid by hydraulic means depending on the direction of travel, the front pair being made rigid and the rear pair non-rigid in each case. A resilient sleeve is incorporated in the coupling of the guide arms to the axles of the guide wheels. In an alternative embodiment the guide wheels are replaced by sliding shoes.
