Abstract

127,471. Broughton, W. H., and Bradbury, R. Aug. 21, 1918. Attachments for turning; turning wood-screws. -Multiple screw-cutting machines, in which both blank and cutter are rotated, have the transverse feed of the cutter p effected by a stationary cam u engaging a projection r on the cutter bracket n as it is traversed. The traverse is obtained from cams &c. acting through a slide k and an arm h sliding freely on the worm-shaft e which drives the cutter p. The bracket n is also free on the worm and can turn relatively to the arm h by which it is reciprocated axially. The cam u has a pivoted end piece v which moves the arm r down against the action of a spring s, thus bringing the cutter into contact with the work; but, on the return, the arm r passes above the cam, the end v being free to move out of the way. but returning by reason of its spring w, Fig. 4.
