Abstract

1,274,170. Gas cutting and marking device; coated products. TANAKA SEISAKUSHO K.K. 19 April, 1971 [19 March, 1970], No. 23193/71. Headings B2E, B2F and B2L. [Also in Divisions C6, C7, F3 and F4] A gas cutting and marking device (Division F3-4) comprises a central ejecting hole 2 (Fig. 1) to eject cutting oxygen when the device is used for gas cutting and a surrounding passageway 3 for a preheating flame 5 and 6, wherein the same central hole 2 is used for ejecting a mixed stream 4 of carrier gas and fusible powder when the device is used for marking a workpiece 7. A conventional nozzle 1 and blowpipe 9 Fig. 2 and (Fig. 3), not shown are supplied with fuel gas such as acetylene via feeding hose 14 and preheating oxygen via feeding hose 15 to form the surrounding flame 5 and 6. When a three-way valve 16 has rotating handle 16b in position D, connecting openings A and C, oxygen flows via hose 13", three-way joint 17, hose 13', valve 16 and feeding hose 13 to supply ordinary gas cutting from the central hole 2. When the device is used for marking, the valve 16 is in the position shown Fig. 2 with openings B and C connected to bring into operation a branch way via dispenser 21. Oxygen acting as a carrier gas flows through hose 18 and out of ejecting nozzle 19 to blow fusible powder 20 via a supply outlet in closed lid 21a and hose 22 to the central hole 2 as a mixed stream. If the nozzle 1 is moved at an appropriate speed with respect to the workpiece 7, the fusible powder in the stream 4 is melted by the surrounding flame and fused onto the workpiece as a clear thin marked line. Predetermined patterns may be obtained, perhaps using a numerical controlling system for nozzle guidance and rapid switching between marking and cutting in an automatic gas cutting machine (Fig. 4, not shown). The carrier gas may alternatively be air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide or argon. The fusible powder may be of a metal such as zinc, aluminium, tin, copper, iron or magnesium or may be powdered plastics.
