Abstract
1,273,847. Measuring surface reflections, photo-electric gloss measurement. BRITISH TITAN Ltd. April 19, 1971 [Jan. 27, 1970], No. 3780/70. Headings G1A and G1P. A device for measuring the amount of light reflected from a surface 3, e.g. of paint, comprises a light source 7, a first aperture 10 situated at the focal plane of a first lens system 16 so that a parallel beam of light is directed onto the surface 3, a second lens system 28 to receive the reflected light, a second aperture 23 of the same size as the aperture 10 and situated at the focal plane of the second lens 28 and a photo-electric device 20 to measure the amount of light passing through the aperture 20. The current produced by the device 20 may be coupled to an automatic recording device or may be coupled to a meter that is initially calibrated by using a glazed black tile as the reflective surface and varying the power supplied to the light source. A diffuser 11 of frosted glass may be placed over the first aperture 10.
