Abstract

1,273,362. Clamps. M. PASBRIG. 29 April, 1969 [2 May, 1968; 17 July, 1968, (3); 25 Sept., 1968], No. 50485/71. Divided out of 1,273,361. Addition to 1,217,911. Heading E2B. [Also in Division H2] A connecting device for releasably connecting a connecting element, comprises a housing; a recess in the housing for accommodating the connecting element; a clamping member within the housing, the clamping member being so arranged that it is urged into a clamping position to clamp the inserted connecting element in the housing when the connecting element tends to move outwardly of the housing, but is moved into an unclamping position when the connecting element is moved inwardly of the housing; and a substantially L- shaped leaf spring which carries the clamping member in such a way that the clamping member is pivotably movable relative thereto and which loads the clamping member towards its clamping position, a first limb of the leaf spring, on which the clamping member is carried, bearing against an abutment on the housing, and the end portion of the second limb which is remote from the connection between the first and second limbs being secured to the housing, the arrangement of the leaf spring being such that a force applied substantially perpendicularly to said second limb causes the first limb to pivot about the abutment and thereby move the clamping member towards a release position. As shown in Fig. 1, the device comprises a housing 100 having a through bore 65 for a cable 104 and an oblique bore 109 for a clamping element 107 which is pivoted to one end of a spring member 108 Fig. 4 (not shown) the other end of which is secured to the housing 101 and an intermediate portion of which abuts an abutment on the housing. In a similar arrangement, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the clamping element is released by means of a slotted bush (130) slidable on the housing 101. As shown in Fig. 5, a connector for electric cables comprises a housing 101 and a pair of clamping elements 107, 107 interconnected through a metal ship 193 on a releasing handle 191 which is biassed to the gripping position of the elements by leaf springs 194, 194. According to Fig. 6 (not shown) a plurality of such connectors is combined in a single plastics moulding. In a similar arrangement, Fig. 7 (not shown), a cover member (101) extends over the handle 191 and the clamping elements are formed integral with the strips 193.
