Abstract

1,273,195. Methylenedioxybenzimidazoles. AGFA-GEVAERT A.G. 8 Oct., 1969 [26 Oct., 1968], No. 49355/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions C4 and G2-G3] Benzimidazole compounds for preparing photographic dyes (see Divisions C4 and G2- G3) are of formula (in which R 1 is alkyl; R 2 is optionally substituted aliphatic; R 3 is -CH 3 or -SCH 3 ; A is an anion or is absent). In the examples, 1-ethylamino - 2 - nitro - 4,5 - methylenedioxybenzene is reduced with SnCl 2 /H1 to 1-ethylamino-2- amino - 4,5 - methylenedioxybenzene which is condensed with acetic anhydride or CS 2 to give bases which are quaternized with methyl sulphate to compounds of the above formula in which R 2 is CH 3 , R 1 is C 2 H 5 , A is CH 3 SO 4 , and R 3 is -CH 3 or -SCH 3 respectively.
