Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0874205/IV (b)/1> where R1 is alkyl, and tautomers thereof, and their production by heating a compound of formula <FORM:0874205/IV (b)/2> with an anhydride of an acid R1COOH in the presence of a mineral acid catalyst. These compounds are stabilizing agents for photographic silver halide emulsions (see Group XX).
