Abstract

A container for tetrahedral bodies stacked in a compact configuration includes two pairs of parallel opposed side walls and a base having a pyramidal protuberance. The container may be made from cardboard in two parts namely a quadrilateral prismatic outer casing 15 and a pyramidal bottom insert 14 having six or more similar triangular sides (9, Fig. 2) and an upwardly turned flange (10, Fig. 2) along its bottom edge. The outer casing 15 is formed from a blank (Fig. 1) having four bottom flaps (1), four side wall areas 2 and four top areas 4, 5, the top areas being joined in sets of two. The bottom flaps (1) are folded inwardly and secured to one another to form either a continuous bottom or an inwardly-turned flange. The joint between the top areas 4, 5 in each set includes a tear-line to facilitate separation of the top areas, which when the casing is initially set up are folded against the side walls 2, when it is desired to close the container. The pyramidal insert is also formed from a blank (Fig. 2) provided at its centre with a hole (12). In another embodiment the container may be moulded in one piece from plastics material. Tetrahedral bodies are stacked in the container in layers with their surfaces towards one another and with the side surfaces of the Bodies in the bottom layer resting on the walls of the pyramidal insert.
