Abstract

1,271,526. Feeding sheets. GESTETNER Ltd. 22 May, 1970 [12 June, 1969], No. 29957/69. Heading B8R. A sheet feeder includes a pile table 14, two - feed rollers 1, e.g. with roughened rubber tyres, for frictional engagement with the top sheet of a pile on the pile table, a one-way clutch mechanism to prevent rotation of the rollers during their movement in a feed direction whilst permitting them to roll back over the pile, and a horizontally reciprocable feed unit 5 carrying a freely pivotable lever 3 to which said. rollers 1 are connected by means of the clutch mechanism and a mechanism permitting independent up and down movement of the feed rollers, means being, provided for adjusting the pivotal axis of the lever 3. The rollers 1 may be adjustably positioned on the spindles (2c), Fig. 4 (not shown), of a swivel block 2 pivotably held by a pin 19 at the end of the pivotable lever 3, this construction providing the said mechanism, the shaft 4, about which lever 3 pivots being adjustable both vertically and horizontally, being retained in one of three indents 24, 25, 26 formed in U-shaped slots 22 in the feed member frame. A topmost sheet is bowed as it is engaged by the stationary rollers 1 on the advancing feed unit 5 and abuts the fingers 9a of cams 9 which are then rotated to allow a separated sheet to advance to co-operating feed rollers 15, 16 and guide surfaces. The surfaces 9c of the cams 9 are shaped so as to push sheets other than the top-most sheet back on to the pile as they rotate. A paper weight 13 having a rubber pad (13a), Fig. 2 (not shown), also helps prevent double feed. The fingers 9a sense the height of the pile and intermittently activate. a pawl and ratchet pile table raising mechanism.
