Abstract

1,271,280. Electro mechanically controlled lock mechanism. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 25 Nov., 1969, No. 57625/69. Heading E2A. An electromechanically controlled lock mechanism including a bolt 3, a locking plunger 11 arranged when the bolt is shot to interlock with the belt and hold it in position, a belt-driving member 22, a link pin 18, mounted on the bolt for coupling the boltdriving member 22 to the bolt 3, a mechanical linkage 14 coupling the locking plunger 11 to the link pin 18 in such manner that as the plunger is disengaged from the bolt the link pin interlocks with the bolt-driving member 22, and vice versa, the arrangement being spring loaded by 19 to urge the plunger to interlock with the bolt, and a magnetic solenoid 21 arranged when energised to withdraw the plunger from the bolt. In moving from the locking position shown in Fig. 2, a permutation mechanism 25 of rotary switches described in detail in Specification 1,271,279 is aligned to make electrical contact by rotation of the operating knob (6) on the shaft 30 on which there is mounted a cam 27 connected to the bolt driving member 22. At this point the middle of the slot 23 in the bolt driving member 22 is adjacent the link pin 18 with the driving bolt 22-moving to the right in Fig. 2 by the manual operation of knob (6). When the left hand side of the slot 23 is adjacent the link pin 18 the switch 26 is closed, activating the solenoid 21 which raises the plunger 11 out of the slot 12 and thus through the pivoted linkage 14, forces the link pin 18 against the spring 19 into the slot 23 and thus the bolt 3 is thereafter withdrawn with the rightward further movement of the bolt driving mechanism. As soon as the plunger 11 is clear of the slot 12 the switch 26 is opened and the plunger 11 falls on to the top 28 of the bolt 3, the link pin 18, still engaging the slot 23. When the bolt is fully withdrawn the stop 9 is engaged by the edge of the bearing 8. On returning to the locked position the slot 23 provides lost motion so that the solenoid 21 is not activated when the plunger 11 is aligned with the slot 12.
