Abstract

1308145 Latch mechanisms WILMOTBREEDEN Ltd 8 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 38670/69 Heading E2A A vehicle door latch mechanism includes a latch releasing member 4 and locking means operable upon the releasing member to prevent releasing movement thereof, the locking means being operated by a solenoid 5 with end pieces 12, 13 of magnetic material and a plunger 8 comprising or carrying two permanent magnets 9, 10 arranged in magnetic opposition, the arrangement being such that energisation of the solenoid displaces the plunger between limit "lock" and "unlock" positions in each of which the corresponding one of the permanent magnets is disposed adjacent the corresponding end-piece and is magnetically attracted thereto in order to retain the plunger in that position on de-energisation of the solenoid. As shown, the plunger 8 is connected by a rod 6 to a pivoted locking lever 1 engageable with a spring-loaded latch-releasing lever 4.
