Abstract
1,271,197. Containers. W. H. ARLITT. 7 Sept., 1970, No. 42819/70. Heading B8P. A container for jet aircraft brakes 21 comprises hingedly connected top and bottom sections and an arm 26 carrying a hold-down part 30 and hingedly connected to one upright of a frame 23, 24 mounted in the bottom section. The hold-down part 30, is fixed to the lower end of a stem 34 threaded into a hollow rod 36 which itself is threaded into the arm 26. The threads between the rod 36 and the arm 26 are of larger pitch than those between the rod 36 and the stem 34. The part 30 is first lowered into engagement with the brakes by rotating the part 30 and is then clamped in position by rotating the hollow rod 36 by means of handles 38. An elongated extension 32 of part 30 projects through the opening in the brakes and through an opening in a locating part 47 fixed to frame part 24 to inhibit lateral movement of the brakes. The front part 26b of the arm 26 is latched to one upright 23 at 28 and the top part 26c of the arm 26 is received in a channel (41) in the top of the container. The inside of the container is reinforced by metal sheets (43, 46) and inner layers (49, 44) at the top and bottom walls, and by a frame 19 secured to the top section and projecting into the bottom section in the closed position. The container is cushioned against shocks by a recessed rubber strip 18 at the junction of the top and bottom sections, a rubber strip 42 in the channel (41) in the top section and a rubber pad (45) beneath the brakes 21. The top and bottom sections are secured together by latches (14). Hand holes (15) are formed in the bottom section.
