Abstract

1,271,196. Nozzles. NORDSON CORP. 17 Aug., 1970 [11 Sept., 1969], No. 39533/70. Heading B2F. A spray nozzle N 2 (Fig. 4) has a tip 2 and 2' with an internal passage T 2 closed at one end which leads to a spray orifice O at its opposite end, this tip having a single side inlet I 2 which is spaced from the spray orifice and is cut across the body of the tip transverse to the axis of the passage, this having transverse planar faces spaced apart along the passage axis. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4 the nozzle tip is in two sections 2 and 2' and is mounted in a tip carrying portion 41 of an adaptor 40, liquid to be sprayed being supplied to the tip via perforations 44 in a member 45. The embodiment shown in Fig. 1 has the cut I, which defines the inlet in the body of the nozzle tip 1 of nozzle N, inclined as shown, so that the tip can be mounted on the end of the nozzle at the angle shown, the liquid supply being through passage 33 and the nozzle used to spray the inside of a tube 34, the tube being rotated. The spray in this and the other embodiments is in a fan shape, the orifice O being a cut in the end of the nozzle tip. Another embodiment has the inlet to the tip formed by a cut at the end of a nozzle tip having an open-ended bore, the tip being held against a plate which also forms one side of the inlet. Alternative methods of mounting the tip are also described, these being somewhat similar to that shown in Fig. 4. In each embodiment the nozzle tip is described as being easy to clean, by means of a fine cleaning probe and solvent. The liquid to be sprayed may be laquer or paint. The specification also describes the method of cutting the inlets and orifices in the nozzle tips.
