Abstract
1,270,869. Continuous casting. SOC. NOUVELLE SPIDEM. 24 Sept., 1969 [25 Sept., 1968], No. 47087/69. Heading B3F. In a wheel-and-belt casting-machine, the region where the metal is contained in the wheel groove 10 by the belt 3 is surrounded by jackets 20, 21, 22 through which a coolant flows and which are stationary when the casting wheel 11 is rotated. Through holes 26 in the inner walls of the jackets, coolant flows into the spaces 46, 47, 48 surrounding the rim 2 of the wheel 11 to flow over ribs 26a on the rim. It is eventually collected in a receptacle (49) after leaving through gaps left between the coolant jackets 20-22. There are two successive groups of jackets 20-22 along the casting region and radial partitions 23-25 divide the jackets into compartments. Separate conduits 27 (37, 38, 39) for supplying coolant to the jackets have individual valves (40-43) for flow control and these may be electromagnetic for automatic regulation. The casting retains heat until subsequently treated in a finishing machine to which it is passed by guides (8, 9).
