Abstract

1,270,770. Aqueous fire extinguishing solutions. P. L. G. G. GUILLEMAUTOT and G. COUSTAURY. 7 Aug., 1970, No. 38282/70. Heading ASA. An aqueous solution of an organic sulphoxide or sulphone containing not more than 60% by weight of water is used for extinguishing fires, particularly of magnesium. The solution may also contain borax and boric acid, a preferred composition comprising, by weight, 45% dimethyl sulphoxide, 42.5% water, 7.5% borax, and 5% boric acid. The composition may be propelled by air or nitrogen.
