Abstract

1,270,327. Cleaning rails. KNORRBREMSE G.m.b.H. 15 Aug., 1969 [16 Aug., 1968], No. 40896/69. Heading B7J. [Also in Division F2] An anti-slip or anti-skid device, which device in use acts on slipping or skidding of a wheel set, on associated braking or driving means to decelerate or accelerate the wheel set, is combined with switch means in the form of an electromagnetic valve 15 which is controlled by the anti-slip or anti-skid device and by which valve 15 a head section 3 of a rail cleaner 2 is moved from a rest position and temporarily held in an operating position to clean a rail surface 12. As shown, the valve 15 is connected to the anti-slip or anti-skid device (not shown), by an electric line 16 and the valve 15 is situated between a pressure medium pipe 14 and a pipe section 14<SP>1</SP>, which pipe section 14<SP>1</SP> connects with the rail cleaner 2 which is pressure-operable and comprises the head section 3, e.g. a rubber plate at the lower end of a piston-rod 4 which has at its upper end a piston 5 situated in a cylinder 6. The piston-rod 4 has fixably attached thereto within the cylinder 6 a plate 8 and between the plate 8 and the bottom 7 of the cylinder 6 is situated a spring 9 and a quantity of damping liquid 10, the distance h corresponding approximately to the spacing of the head section 3 from the surface of rail 12 in its rest position. Opening of the valve 15 by the anti-slip or anti-skid device results in the flow of pressure medium from the pipe 14 to the pipe section 141 via a by-pass pipe 20 containing an open check valve 21 to thereby move down the piston 5 and bring the rail cleaner 2 into its operative position: on the valve 15 closing the pipe section 14 becomes connected to an outlet 17 but the return movement of the piston 5 is slowed down by a timing means comprising a pressure medium reservoir 18, the check valve 21 in the by-pass pipe 20, which valve 21 now closes, and a throttling device 19 in the pipe section 14<SP>1</SP> which throttling device 19 slows down the return flow of pressure medium.
