Abstract

A damper consisting of a main body, sleeve and piston separated with a diaphragm with air on top and oil beneath will be attached to a support plate with a radius arm supported by rubber bushings for added strength to prevent side slap. The extending piston damper fixes to a spring loaded scraping block which exerts downward pressure onto the railway track. Air supply is provided by the train's existing compressor with a T-piece taken from the braking system with a regulator valve to maintain constant pressure and a dump valve to disperse any pressure surges.

Description

WET LEAF RAIL SCRAPER Dc-ion Constant and regulated air supply flows into the air-over-oil damper, forcing the extending piston to compress the springs on the backing-plate of the detachable and replaceable leaf scraping block in order to exert an even pressure, therefore clearing the track of unwanted wet leaves.
Whilst not in use, the piston can be retracted fully into the damper until further use is required.
A safety spring device will be fitted to the piston in case of malfunction or air pressure failure in order to retract the scraping block from the track, therefore the air pressure required needs to be:- required air pressure, plus spring down force pressure.
As the train runs in both directions, we need to install a scraper in front and at the rear of the train and retract the relevant scraper that is not in use.
The Piston Damper This will consist of a main body and a sleeve and piston, separated by a diaphragm with air on top and oil beneath to produce a smooth cushioned action.
Asstmbh The piston damper will be attached to the support frame and radius arm using rubber bushings and steel pins. The radius arm will add additional strength and stop side-slap.
The whole unit will fix onto a cross-member installed in front of the leading wheel set on the axle box.
Airs.pDlV This will come from the existing air supply from the train's compressor. A T-piece will tap into the braking system supply with an air pressure regulator to inaintin our constant pressure. A dump valve fitted to the piston will disperse any pressure surge we may incur.
InConchisie To overcome uneven scraping, the downward force from the piston damper and the springs in the backing plate under compression will compensate for the pitch and roll of the train, thus making sure the scraper does not leave the track.

Claims (1)

  1. AMS
    1. To deal with the long term problem of lack of adhesion caused by wet leaves, an air operated mechanical device fitted in front on the leading wheel set of a railway train. Designed with an extending piston to exert a downward pressure onto a replaceable and detachable scraping block to clear the railway track of wet leaves, snow and ice.
