Abstract

1,270,326. Meat packaging trays. NIAGARA FRONTIER SERVICES Inc. 8 Aug., 1969 [9 Aug., 1968; 18 July, 1969], No. 39873/69. Heading B8P. A meat packaging tray comprises a transparent bottom 2 and an upstanding rim 3 in the form of an inverted U-shaped channel 7 filled with a moisture absorbent material 8 exposed at 9 to the tray bottom. Alternatively, the rim is solid and the moisture absorbent material is secured to its inner surface. In a modification the tray may be in two parts, one defining the bottom (2<SP>1</SP>), outer portion of the rim (15) and an external horizontal flange (16) and the other defining the inner portion of the rim (18) and a horizontal flange (17) secured to the flange (16). The tray may be of polystyrene and the moisture absorbent material pulpboard or blotting paper. The tray and contents may be overwrapped with a transparent plastics sheet material (11) whose ends are heat-sealed.
