Abstract
1,270,108. Mixing granular materials. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 15 May, 1969 [16 May, 1968], No. 23274/ 68. Heading B1C. [Also in Divisions B5 and B8] Apparatus for mixing granular plastics and supplying an injection moulding machine 60 comprises containers 104, 106 for two different grades or for virgin and re-granulated plastics which discharge to a jigging conveyer 26, the discharge rates being controlled by a sliding plate valve 112 having a large aperture 114 which gradually opens in succession the outlets 108, 110 and then closes them in reverse order so that any ratio of the two components can be obtained. The plate valve carries a divider 118, the flow along the jigging conveyor 26 is controlled by a vertically adjustable baffle 116. The mixture is conveyed by a blower 52 and tube 56 to a cyclone 58 where the air escapes at 68 and the granular material falls into a hopper 65. Sprues from the injection moulder 60 are discharged to an endless conveyor 82 and delivered to a re-granulator 16 and thence to container 106. Every closure of the mould actuates the air motor 70 to cause a plate 76 to descend on to the granules in the hopper 65; if it can descend far enough to cause a cam 74 to close a microswitch 78, 80, a stepwise movement of the conveyor 82 is effected and the jigging conveyor 26 is started. The conveyor 82 is driven by a piston pneumatic motor through a one-way roller clutch and has baffles to orient the sprues so that they are correctly presented to the regranulator 16.
