Abstract

1,270,093. Mowers; sweeping leaves. WILKINSON SWORD Ltd. 2 July, 1969 [9 July, 1968], No. 32718/68. Headings A1E and A1F. A vegetable matter treating machine comprises a frame, a rotary member and a resilient biassing means detachably mounting the rotary member in the frame. The rotary member may be a cutter or a brush and the resilient biassing means may comprise a support and journal bearing assembly 24 at one end of the shaft of the rotary member. A spindle 25 has a frusto-conical recess holding the end of the shaft and a helical compression spring 28 forces the flange 27 on the spindle away from the end face 29 of a flange 30 journalled to the frame 36. To remove the rotary member a screwed key 41 in a tapped bore 40 through a holding nut 39 on the end of the spindle 25 adjusts the axial position of the spindle 25 against the tension in the spring 28 by boring on the boss 37. By operation of the key 41 the rotary member may be easily removed and replaced or substituted.
