Abstract

1,269,073. Photographic silver halide colour material. EASTMAN KODAK CO. April 1, 1969 [April 1, 1968], No. 16982/69. Addition to 1,269,075. Heading G2C. A photographic emulsion comprising lightsensitive silver halide grains dispersed in a hydrophilic colloid binder contains three non- diffusible 5-pyrazolone photographic coupling compounds which react with the oxidation products of a primary aromatic amine colour developing agent to form a non-diffusible magenta dye, one coupling compound being a colourless coupler, one being a yellow coloured 3-anilino 4-arylazo-5-pyrazolone coupler and the third being a development-inhibitor-releasing (DIR) coupler. The coupling compounds may be incorporated in the emulsion in the form of a dispersion of the solution in a water-insoluble coupler solvent (e.g. tricresyl phosphate). The DIR coupler preferably has a monothio group in its coupling position which, on coupling development, releases a diffusible mercaptan which inhibits development. Many colour couplers are specified. The DIR coupler added to the colourless coupler does not affect fogging, but the DIR coupler reduces fog caused by the coloured coupler.
