Abstract

1,261,061. Photographic silver halide colour materials. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 27, 1969 [April 1, 1968], No.16033/69. Heading G2C. A photographic silver halide emulsion for making colour material having an integral mask contains a dispersion of a solution in a water-insoluble coupler solvent, e.g. dibutyl phthalate or tri-cresyl phosphate, of three non-diffusible colour couplers all of which form dyes of the same colour, one being a colourless colour coupler, one being a coloured mask-forming colour coupler and one being a development-inhibitor-releasing colour coupler. The colourless coupler may be a 2- or 4-equivalent coupler and forms the primary dyeimage; the mask-forming coloured coupler contains an azo group in the coupling position which is removed on coupling; and the development-inhibitorreleasing coupler contains a thio group in coupling position which is released as a mercaptan on development. The emulsion may also contain a competing coupler which forms a lenco dye or a diffusible dye on development. Materials made from the emulsions show reduced contrast and reduced fog and multi-colour materials may show interimage effects.
