Abstract

1,268,933. Resin-fibre composite. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. 10 Feb., 1970 [7 March, 1969], No. 12303/69. Heading D1R. [Also in Divisions Cl and C3] Carbon fibres which have been heat treated in a partial vacuum are formed into a sheet and sprayed with an epoxy resin, optionally together with a curing agent. The sheet so formed is dried, partially cured at 80‹C and hot pressed at 750 p.s.i. and 165‹C. The fibres may be graphitized by heating at 1000‹C before spraying with the resin. The fibres may be produced by carbonising nylon, rayon or polyacrylonitrile fibres.
