Abstract
1,268,669. Casting ingots. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS A.B. 28 March, 1969 [1 April, 1968], No. 16473/69. Heading B3F. When casting ingots in a mould 10 having a hot-top lining 11 the heat absorption capacity of the mould below the hot-top lining is reduced over a distance of twice the hot-top lining height measured from the mould top. This is achieved by reducing the wall thickness B of the upper part of the mould in comparison with that C of the lower part. The upper and lower parts can be separable at 27. Additionally, insulation (not shown) may surround the outside of the upper part or extend as a gasket located just above the level of the hot-top lining bottom (thus dividing the upper mould part into two sections). The wall thickness can be reduced by upward tapering (not shown). In Fig. 5 to reduce heat absorption capacity the mould wall has a cavity 21 which may be left empty or filled with insulation. The hot-top lining 11 is extended downwardly into the mould at 23.
