Clinometers for use on aircraft comprise a circular tube 3, half filled with liquid, which is attached to a graduated plate 2 suspended on bearings in a fixed frame 6. As shown, the axis of the tube is in the plane of the plate, the tube being secured by channelled strips which connect the central and outer parts of the plate and pass behind the tube, and also by clips 4 which pass round the front of the tube and have their ends passed through slots in the plate. The central part of the plate may be omitted, the tube being then secured to the outer part 2. The bearings may comprise adjustable screwed centres 5 entering bosses diametrically opposite each other on the plate, or journals on the plate mounted on ball bearings in the frame 6. The plate 2 or its graduations, or the liquid or space in the tube, may be rendered light emitting for night use,
