Abstract

1,268,116. Tools for compressing valve springs of I.C. engines. E. M. ARTHUR. 15 June, 1970 [14 June, 1969], No. 30262/69. Heading B4C. An adapter for use with a valve spring compressor for removing a split collet 40 from a valve stem 27 of an I.C. engine comprises a post having a foot 14 for engaging a spring abutment 25 or a valve spring, a part 30 (or 32) for receiving a jaw 12 (or 10) of the compressor, and an open-sided cavity 23 affording access. The adapter is tubular and provided with slots 30, 32 on opposite sides, the upper pair 30 being used as an alternative to the lower pair 32 to receive the upper jaw 12 when the cylinder head block is provided with a deep boundary wall. The device may also be used when collets are to be fitted.
