Abstract

1,267,660. Variable resistors. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 2 June, 1969 [14 June, 1968], No. 28326/68. Heading HIS. A variable resistor includes a (cylindrical aluminium) body 11 carrying at least a pair of contacts 27 (and 28, Fig. 2, not shown) which engage a resistive printed circuit 25 on a carrier wrapped round and secured (by pegs 26) to the cylindrical surface of a rotor 17. The zinc rotor (which is a heat sink) is held by spigots 18, 19 in a bore 13 in the end 12 of the body 11 and in a recess 16 in the end-cap 15. The free end of spigot 18 has an operating knob. The rotor may be moved from a positively located "off" position (provided by a spring- loaded ball 22 and a cam track) in which there is no connection between contacts 27 and 28, through positions where the resistance between 27 and 28 varies, to another positively located position where an exposed conductive region on the printed circuit 25 bridges an additional pair of contacts (29, 31, Fig. 2, not shown) to complete a separate electrical circuit.
