Abstract
1,267,195. Open end spinning. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. 14 March, 1969 [14 March, 1968], No. 12440/68. Heading DID. An open end spinning device comprises a rotatable body 11 having passage therethrough having an inlet end 13 an outlet end 14 and a fibre collecting surface 21 facing radially inwards and means, such as an opening 18, to induce an air stream along the passage to assist in bringing fibres fed into inlet end 13 to the collecting surface 21 where the fibres are built onto the seed yarn 22. The tube is rotated by a belt 17. In Figs. 2 and 3 not shown a semi-circular fibre collecting surface (40) is formed in a rotatable body made by of two plates (36, 38) and stationary tubes (41, 42) introduce fibres into and lead yarn from the collecting surface. A leaf spring may be arranged within the body to grip the yarn end to prevent twist running off at the end. A ball or roller may be arranged to press centrifugally against the yarn on the collecting surface to prevent the twist running off. A false twist arrangement may be provided at the exit of the spinning device to operate in the same or opposite direction to the device.
