Abstract
1,267,173. Piston-rings. LINDE A.G. 10 June, 1970 [11 June, 1969], No. 28016/70. Heading F2T. Piston-rings 11, Fig. 1, for a compressor piston are held captive in their grooves by means of one or more shoulders which engage annular lands in the grooves, the body of the piston containing the grooves being made in one piece and the land or lands in each of the grooves each contain a gap the length of which is such that a piston-ring may be tangentially threaded therethrough into the groove. The rings may be made of P.T.F.E. of T- or L- section and urged against the lands by springs 13. After the piston-rings have been threaded into position, the gap in the land or lands of each groove is closed by a circlip 21, the head of a screw 26, Fig. 4, or an arcuate plate which is screwed to the piston in between adjacent grooves. The pressure in the cylinder may be directed behind the end rings through passages 14, 15 and the rings prevented from rotating by stops fitted to the grooves in the regions of the ring gaps.
