Abstract

1,266,900. Laminates. STOREY BROS. & CO. Ltd. 27 May, 1969, No. 26796/69. Heading B5N. A laminate is made by bonding a sheet of plastics material to a knitted fabric and is embossed either during or after bonding such that the area of each distinct embossment is large in comparison with the area of each stitch of the knitted fabric and the depth of each distinct embossment is greater than the thickness of the fabric. The plastics sheet may have a printed pattern which is visible through the fabric, and may be of plasticized P.V.C., polyethylene, polyurethane, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer or regenerated cellulose. The fabric may be a warp knitted loop raised nylon fabric which may be bonded to a sheet of plasticized P.V.C. by P.V.C. paste. Embossing of the laminate is effected by means of a nip roller having a sculptured surface.
