Abstract

1488162 Vacuum formable laminates STOREY BROS & CO Ltd 30 April 1975 [30 Jan 1974] 4381/74 Heading B5N A vacuum formable material comprises a laminate of a stretchable fabric 12 having a ready stretchability of at least 2% simultaneously in at least two directions at right angles under a 5 1b. load for a 2 inch wide strip, a plasticized vinyl chloride polymer layer 14 and, sandwiched therebetween, a plastics foam layer 16. The fabric may be of knitted nylon; alternatively, the fabric may be made of crimped or coiled yarns or filaments. The vinyl chloride polymer may be a homo- or a copolymer, the foam layer, which may be of closed or preferably of open-celled structure being of polyurethane or a vinyl chloride polymer. The fabric may be adhered to the foam layer by adhesive or by flame softening of the foam, a cast or calendered sheet of the vinyl chloride polymer being adhered to the other face of the foam, e.g. by an adhesive or whilst the vinyl chloride polymer sheet is hot and sticky.
