Abstract

A laminate is made by bonding a knitted fabric to the surface of a sheet of flexible plastics material bearing a printed pattern, the knitted fabric having a sufficiently open structure for the printed pattern to show through and be visible when viewed from the fabric side of the laminate. The plastics sheet may be of plasticized P.V.C., polyethylene, polyurethane, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer or regenerated cellulose and is transparent, translucent or, preferably, opaque. The fabric may be a warp knitted loop raised nylon fabric and is normally of a colour contrasting with that of the printing. Bonding may be effected by means of an adhesive such as a P.V.C. paste applied by gravure roller and assisted by heat and pressure. The laminate may be embossed by means of a roller during or after the laminating step.
