Abstract

126,674. Brown, E. E. Feb. 5, 1917. Framework.-Girders or spars for aircraft are composed of two built-up channel members secured back to back with the webs formed with parallel ribs, those on one web sloping in the opposite direction to those on the other web. Fig. 1 shows the channel members constituted by two upper flanged members A connected by separate webs B to two similar lower members A*, the webs being formed with sloping ribs B<1> as .shown. Some or all of the ribs may be stopped short at one or both ends. The inclination of the ribs may be reversed at the centre of the length of the girder. Fig. 6 shows another form, in which the edges of the web are bent outwards at G<2>, G<3> to abut against turned-over edges of the upper and lower members. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 126,085.
